Discourage the Party Crashers!
In addition to tick and mosquito spraying to keep unwanted biting guests away, we also have programs to discourage the party crashers who tend to do damage when they visit - deer, rabbits, moles, and voles! While these animals are sometimes fun to watch, they can also wreak havoc on your landscape causing damage that can be both annoying and expensive to repair.
Deer (& Rabbit) Deterrent
Land development and unchecked population growth have brought deer into our backyards on a daily basis. Deer are creatures of habit. They identify a plentiful landscape and tend to stay close by until the food sources are depleted or something prevents their continued browsing.
Damage to your landscape plants may occur year-round. Sometimes deer target plants over the winter and in early spring when natural food sources are limited. Sometimes they just wait for you to leave your summer home before they stop by to snack on your flower pots and privet hedges. Dragonfly Landscape Design offers a deer spraying program to deter both deer and rabbits from feeding on your lush landscape foliage (without harming the deer, rabbits, or your plants). Our deer spraying program targets specific plants that we know the deer like to repel the deer from browsing. After routine and consistent treatments, deer feeding habits are interrupted and they no longer will come on your property in search of food, opting to go elsewhere. And, this is good news from the perspective that having fewer deer in your back yard also means you are likely to have fewer ticks too!
Should a more permanent solution be required, we can help you design a landscape with more deer-tolerant plant material and we also offer deer fencing!
Mole & Vole Repellent
While you will rarely see a mole or vole, you can’t miss the signs when they are present on your property, and their destruction can be quite devastating:
- Grub and insect-eating moles leave volcano-like mounds and create tunnels just under the surface of your lawn, leaving unsightly visible ridges in your lawn
- Plant-eating voles excavate 2” wide holes and leave 2 inch wide paths across your lawn, but no mounds. While these visible paths are less bothersome, voles eat the roots and bulbs of plants and can do an amazing amount of plant damage in a very short time
Dragonfly Landscape Design offers a mole and vole repellent program which targets areas with visible damage as well as areas with plants that the voles prefer. The moles and voles are not harmed, they just are encouraged to pick a new home. And, our lawn health care program includes grub control (and getting rid of grubs denies moles a preferred food source).
